AFRICAN DANCE TRAINING IN SENEGAL.

African dance culture, in the heart of the Ecole de Sable, Toubab Dialaw, Senegal.

Easter 2010 (29th March 2010 - 10th April 2010).

Discover the diversity of African dance culture, music, and people in the heart of the Ecole de Sable, Senegal. Join Germaine Acogny and a selection of African and international dance teachers on a two week intensive dance training course in Easter 2010 (29th March 2010 - 10th April 2010).
Classes will consist of a combination of the following disciplines :

West African Traditional Dances
Modern African Dance Germaine Acogny's technique
Contemporary African Dance
Dance and Nature exploration sessions
Improvisation
Exchange and discovery through movement
Discovery of the dances and traditions of the fishing village of Toubab Dialaw
Discussions and exchanges between students

The Ecole des Sables is located in Toubab Dialaw, a fishing village about 50 kilometres south of Dakar / Senegal. The school (boarding) is situated next to a Laguna and facing the African savannah and its Baobab trees and a short walk from a golden sandy beach.

The Centre has two large dance studios / that are used both for classes and as performance spaces.

The Ecole de Sable is a dance boarding school and provides accommodation which is well adapted to the environment and climatic conditions. The centre is built up as three villages which consist of bungalows with patios. On site there are a total of 24 houses. Each house host 2 to 3 people sharing.

The Centre also has a restaurant, an infirmary, a conference room and technical and administrative spaces where you can keep you in touch with the internet world via wireless access in particular designated areas.

To further promote this event at a later date you will be contacted by email and invited to a dance workshop (charged) and presentation of the type of classes given at Ecole de Sable.

Every Fridays

Contemporary African Dance draws from Africa's diverse movement styles, culture, and music. The class will support dancers to: understand some of the aesthetic values that help to shape African dance forms. Develop the skills to isolate and move parts of the body simultaneously, further develop a good sense of full body co-ordination, build stamina and endurance at the same time as develop clarity and accuracy in physical and interpretative skills. Dance movement vocabulary will be articulated through the beat of polyrhythmic African music and built through warm up, centre exercises and travelling phases before dancing to a ecstatic frenzy.
